A Concern for Righteousness

A Verse

Genesis 27:12

What if my father touches me? I would appear to be tricking him and would bring down a curse on myself rather than a blessing.

A Comment

It’s interesting to see Jacob being more concerned with appearances and the prospect of being caught by his father than having a concern for doing the right thing. I wonder how often this is true for us, being concerned with how things appear instead of being concerned with the right thing because it is right, regardless of how it impacts us. A true concern for righteousness depends upon faith in God’s promise to take care of us without resorting to the deeds and deceptions of the flesh, which Christ died to deliver us from.

A Prayer

O Lord, grant us to live with integrity that reflects our confidence in You and Your righteousness. May our lives be consecrated to You. For we have died with Christ. It is no longer we who live but Christ who lives in us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Blessing

Now the God of hope,
fill you with all joy and peace in believing,
so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may overflow in hope. Amen.
