Abide in Me

A Verse, A Comment, A Prayer, A Blessing (1/11/2023)

A Verse

John 15:5

I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

This week, I’ve been preparing for a new sermon series on marriage. The first sermon in the series examines how Jesus’ teaching is the rock upon which we can build a strong marriage. This comes from Matthew 7:24-27. While this is undoubtedly true, it is also important to realize that obedience to Jesus’ teaching depends upon abiding in Him by faith. We cannot expect to bear fruit if we are detached from the source, who is Christ.

So, this morning, as you aspire to live in obedience to Christ, don’t forget that you must abide in Him as well. To abide in Him is to trust Him, which is reflected in our obedience to Him. We cannot separate obedience to Christ from abiding in Christ. Nor can we claim to be abiding in Christ if we refuse to obey Him.

A Prayer

Would you pray with me?

A Blessing

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.
