Access with Confidence through Faith

A Verse, A Comment, A Prayer, A Blessing (8/22/2022)

A Verse

Ephesians 3:11-13

This was according to the eternal purpose that he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through our faith in him. So I ask you not to lose heart over what I am suffering for you, which is your glory.

What does the “this” in verse 11 refer to? It refers to God’s ordering of the church for the sake of His glory, the manifestation of His wisdom to the heavenly authorities through Jesus Christ.

In other words, Paul is referring to the church, that is, the assemblage of God’s One People which consists only of those who have trusted in Jesus Christ, Jew and Gentile alike. God’s goal was always to assemble a people from “every kindred, tongue, tribe, and nations” for the sake of His glory. And it would be through the Lord Jesus Christ that “this people” would be unified, filled with the Holy Spirit to the praise of the glory of God’s grace.

“This people,” brought together by Jesus Christ according to God’s eternal purpose and plan, are blessed with “boldness” and “access with confidence” through faith. God hears and beckons His people to come to Him with boldness. He desires for His people to use their blood-bought access to Him in confident, faith-filled prayer.
