A Verse
Philippians 4:13
I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.
A Comment
Philippians 4:13 is a well-known verse. It tends to be used in our culture in the context of the pursuit of great achievements. Maybe it’s an Olympian. Maybe it’s a Quarterback. Maybe it’s a Gymnast. And that is wonderful. We should not be cynical to such usages of Philippians 4:13. Yet, we must also remember that the context tells us that “doing all things through” Christ is just as true in our triumphs as in our trials. The point of the passage is not so much about how we will always be “successful” in the eyes of the world because of Christ, but rather, we can be content in every circumstance because of Christ.
A Prayer
Lord Jesus, help us to grow in contentment in You. Let us not be tossed to and fro by every circumstance that we encounter, but instead, let us rest on the Rock, which is You. Strengthen us for whatever you bring us through, for Your glory and our good. Amen.
A Blessing
The Father who chose you,
the Son who bought you,
and the Spirit who teaches you,
make goodness and mercy pursue you all the days of your life and preserve your life,
though you walk in the midst of trouble.
Amen.
