A Verse

Ephesians 2:19-22

So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.

Verses 19-22 bring Ephesians 2 to a conclusion with a point of application for our relationship with God and with others in the church.

First, if we belong to Christ, then we belong to the people of God. Note what verse 19 says, “So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.” No longer strangers and aliens! Why? Because of Christ, which is the point of verse 20! And through Jesus, we have not only been grafted into the people of God, we are being built into the place of his presence here on earth. Verse 22, “In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.”

This brings us to the second point of application, that, as the people of God, we have a responsibility to make the presence of God known in this world by the Holy Spirit. When we gather as God’s people and others are in our midst, people should leave thinking to themselves, “Surely God is with this people!” Which provokes me to ask, are we so loving, so caring, so impartial, so full of awe, so full of the Spirit, so committed to Christ and his gospel, so excited about the glory of God, that when people are around us, they sense the presence of God in our midst?

A Prayer

Would you join me in prayer?

A Blessing

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.
