A Verse

John 18:28

Then the Jewish leaders took Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor. By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness they did not enter the palace, because they wanted to be able to eat the Passover.

A Comment

The Jewish leaders were careful to follow the ceremonial expectations of the Mosaic law, but they missed the Messiah. They were so committed to their understanding and expectations that their hearts were hardened to the mercy and grace of God in Jesus the Christ. O’ how careful we must be to not miss Jesus in all of our religious activity.

A Prayer

O’ LORD, open our eyes that we might see Christ in all of Scripture. Grant us not to search the Scriptures looking for eternal life by virtue of our strict obedience like the Pharisees, but let us see our Savior in merciful glory toward us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Blessing

Now the Savior who died,
who rose, and who reigns,
grant you joy in the midst of labor,
peace in the midst of troubles,
hope in the midst of despair,
and faithfulness in the midst of temptation. Amen.
