A Verse

Ephesians 2:4

“But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,”

A Comment

“But God…” Two of the greatest words ever combined in God’s Word.

What does this mean? It means that while we were dead in our wrongdoing, in our sin, while God could have been sharpening the sword of His judgment for us, God, in Christ, was preparing mercy for us. God was looking at the storehouses of His grace and saying, “While they deserve my judgment, I intend to give them grace in the place of grace. I intend to magnify my goodness in their distress. To give them hope when all they deserve is hell. To rescue them from their self-made destruction. I am going to save them, not because they deserve it, but because it is my nature to save sinful people.”

While we are children of wrath by nature, God is the God of grace by nature. It is his nature to love people like us. To give grace to His rebels.

A Prayer

O’ LORD, we thank You for Your grace! We praise You for Your patience and kindness. Thank You for redeeming us! In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Blessing

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, Amen.
