A Verse

Ephesians 3:14-19

For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

A Comment

In verse 16, Paul specifically asks the Father to grant that believers might be “strengthened with power through His Spirit in their inner being.” The power that Paul has in mind here is the power of God himself. Notice how verse 16 begins: “that out of his glorious riches.”

Paul is asking God to fill believers with the “power of God’s Spirit,” that is, the Holy Spirit, according to the “glorious riches.” As one commentator noted, “The idea here is that God possesses extraordinary might, which He is able and willing to impart to His people.”

So here, we see that the glorification of God’s power results in the strengthening of believers with the power of the Holy Spirit. The glory of God results in good for the believers. Thus, pursuing God’s glory is no hindrance to God’s goodness in our lives. They are inextricably related.
