God's Concern

A Verse

Matthew 11:28

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

A Comment

This morning, we move to the next clause in the verse and we see God’s concern for us. Those who are invited to come to God are not those who are perfect or who have their lives fully put together, but those who are weary and burdened. The guilt of our sin is weighing us down. We are weary from carrying a burden that is too heavy for us to carry. If we continue in the way that we are going, we will not make it. This is the one that God invites near because He cares for them. Our weariness and burdened-ness are not a liability to God. He does not invite us near in spite of our these things, but because of these things. Therefore, we ought to come to Him because we know He cares for us.

A Prayer

O’ Jesus, grant us to see ourselves as You see us: weary and burdened, needing You above all things. Expose our need that we might flee to You for rescue and redemption. Have mercy on us, Lord, according to Your lovingkindness. In Your name, Amen.

A Blessing

May the LORD show kindness to you;
May the LORD grant each of you rest;
May those who dwell in your house be blessed; may they ever be praising the Lord.
