God's Invitation

A Verse, A Comment, A Prayer, A Blessing (1/19/22)

A Verse

Matthew 11:28

Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

A Comment

Focusing on just the first three words, we encounter an invitation from God incarnate to come to Him. In the book of Deuteronomy, the LORD set Himself apart from other so-called gods in the ancient world by being “so near to His people.” In Christ, the LORD Himself has come near to us and invites us to come near to Him. The LORD, who upholds everything by the word of His power, invites us to come to Him. Meditate on that truth this morning. He knows everything about you, and He still invites you to come to Him.

A Prayer

O LORD, let us respond to Your invitation with the boldness that You purchased for us through the work of Jesus Christ. We can come to You because You have provided the way. There is no need for us to be hesitant. Your invitation is genuine. Your desire is that we come to You. Let us, by faith, draw near to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Blessing

May the God who works wonders,
Who has made His strength known among His people,
And by His power redeemed them,
May He be your joy and delight in you always.
