A Verse
Luke 5:31-32
“It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
A Comment
If we fancy ourselves to be healthy with no needs before Jesus, He would tell us that He did not come for us. Yet, the reality is that we all are infected with a cancer that though sometimes undetected is still a terrible threat to our lives. Thus, when Jesus says that he came not for the healthy but for the sick, He was not saying that there were some that do not need Him, but rather, everyone needs Him because everyone is sick, which is good news if Jesus truly can and does heal the sick of their sin-sickness.
A Prayer
O’ Jesus, grant us humble hearts that confess our need for You. Protect us from the pride that blinds us to our need. Heal us, O’ Lord, in Your mercy. Amen.
