A Verse
Nehemiah 10:39b
We will not neglect the house of our God.
A Comment
In the context of a rebuilding project, the book of Nehemiah tells the story of the people of God recommitting themselves to faithfulness. At the end of Nehemiah 10, after repenting of their neglect in bringing the firstfruits of their works to the LORD, the people declare, “We will not neglect the house of our God.” As a follower of Christ, how might you be guilty of neglecting God? How might you repent of such neglect like the people in Nehemiah 10 and recommit yourself to prioritizing God and His work in your life?
A Prayer
O’ God, we confess that we are prone to neglecting you and your work for the things of this world. We rarely give you the firstfruits of our work. The tendency of our flesh is to give you our leftovers after we have given others our best. Lord, in your mercy, forgive us and renew us through Your abundant grace in Jesus. Grant us to live as the people of God that we are through faith. May our activity reveal our identity. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
A Blessing
May the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
