Pray Continually, Because He is Near

A Verse, A Comment, A Prayer, A Blessing (2/9/2022)

A Verse

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

A Comment

While we might be tempted to feel overwhelmed by the command to “pray continually,” we must not miss the comfort afforded by this command. The fact that we are commanded to “pray continually” is because we are able to “pray continually.” We never have to leave a message with God. He is always near, ready to hear us and answer us. Thus, we not only should but we can pray continually because Christ has thrown open our access to the throne of grace.

A Prayer

O Lord, teach us to pray continually. To not formalize or restrict our communion with you to set times during the day only, but that we might bear our hearts, concerns, and needs to You throughout our day. You never weary of our prayers. Thank you for your nearness to us because of Jesus.

A Blessing

Now the God who is mighty,
the Lamb who is worthy,
and the Spirit who is near,
fortify you to live faithfully in these days and all the days until Jesus comes. Amen.
