Pursuing the Quiet Place with Jesus

A Verse

Mark 6:31-32

Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place.

We live and move in a busy society. When we think about spending time with God, we are often tempted to believe that we “just don’t have time.” This, however, is not what Jesus taught us. When the demands of life and ministry are pressing in on us, we MUST make time to go to what Jesus calls the “quiet place” and rest.

Rest is not mere inactivity. Rest is not passive. Rest takes effort. It requires that we prioritize our time to simply be in the presence of Jesus. The fact is not that we are too busy to spend time with Jesus in the quiet place, but that we are too busy NOT to spend time with Jesus in the quiet place.

We were not made for ceaseless labor. We were made to work and to rest. We were made to slow down, even in the midst of the demands of life, and find the “quiet place” with Jesus.

As this week begins, I want to encourage you to make time to be alone with Jesus. To find the quiet place in the midst of all the busyness. Don’t just say, “I’ll spend time with Jesus if I have the time.” Make the time. Pursue Jesus in the quiet place.

A Prayer

Would you pray with me?

A Blessing

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.
