A Verse

Ephesians 1:7

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace

I’ll never forget hearing the story of a so-called pastor in my hometown who instructed his music director to “stop singing songs about the blood of Jesus.” According to this so-called pastor, “songs about the blood of Jesus” made people uncomfortable. Put aside, for the moment, the idea of whether or not it should be our goal for people to be “comfortable” in our corporate worship services (the apostle Paul has some interesting thoughts on that in 1 Corinthians 14:22-25), and just think about how tragic it is for a so-called pastor to suggest that we should not think about the blood of Jesus.

The New Testament is not ashamed of the blood of Jesus. As Ephesians 1:7 tells us, our redemption comes “through his blood.” In other words, where there is no bloodshed, God has ordained that there would be no redemption for us. Yet, in His great wisdom and mercy, God provided His own Lamb for our sins.

We should not be ashamed of Jesus’ work on our behalf. For, it is through the shedding of His blood that we are redeemed, to the praise of His glorious grace!

A Prayer

O’ Jesus, thank you for the blood that secured our redemption in You. Let us not be ashamed or ever forget Your grace. In Your name, Amen.

A Blessing

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
