Reigning in Life while Walking through the Shadow of Death

A Verse

Romans 5:15-17

But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! Nor can the gift of God be compared with the result of one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!

A Comment

Death is the result of sin. Yet, in Christ, sin, death, and hell have been defeated for the believer. Through Jesus, we have received the provision of grace and the gift of righteousness that we live forever. While we might face a physical death in the future, it does not have the final word over our life. For just as surely as Jesus Christ rose from the grave, we too will rise and reign with Him because of His grace.

A Prayer

O’ Jesus, thank you for conquering sin and death for us. You lived, died, were buried, and rose again, bearing the penalty of our sins, that we might live, die, be buried, and rise again at Your return and reign in righteousness as those justified through faith. Jesus, thank you! Grant us the grace to hear, see, and grow in our understanding of these truths. In Your name, Amen.

A Blessing

Now may the Savior, who has abolished death,
come to you in your sorrows,
stay by your side in the darkness,
carry you through your distresses,
and give you joy in the morning.
