A Verse

Luke 17:32-33

Remember Lot’s wife! Whoever tries to keep their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life will preserve it.

A Comment

When Lot’s wife was fleeing Sodom and Gomorrah, she looked back as the cities were coming under God’s judgment and was turned into a pillar of salt (Genesis 19:26). Jesus interpreted and applied this passage to His disciples at the coming of the Kingdom of God. When we consider what is coming, we must resolve to keep our eyes fixed on Christ, the One who goes before us, who saves us, and not look back and long for the life of sin that merited God’s judgment. Those who wish to keep their sinful life will lose their life, but those who leave the sinful life behind will gain true life in Christ.

A Prayer

O’ LORD, let us remember Lot’s wife, as Christ commanded us. Let us remember the penalty that was paid by Jesus to set us from our slavery to sin. Grant us to keep our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith. Let us look with anticipation and excitement for the revealing of the Kingdom of God in its fullness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Blessing

May the LORD guide you always;
May you be like a well-watered garden,
Like a spring whose waters never fail.
When you cry for help, may the LORD always say, Here am I.”
