A Verse
Matthew 6:1
Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
A Comment
Jesus desires that we care about righteousness for the sake of His glory, not our own before our neighbors. We have been called to love and practice righteousness not so that we will be highly regarded by others, but so that God would be highly regarded by others.
A Prayer
O LORD, may we seek first Your kingdom and its righteousness. We long for your name, not our own, to be hallowed. Let there be a Godwardness about our words and deeds that reveal that our concern is for Your glory above all things. In Jesus’ matchless name, Amen.
A Blessing
Now may the Shepherd who laid down His life for the sheep
restore your soul,
lead you in righteousness,
walk beside you in the dark valley,
and bring you safely home to the home of the Lord forevermore. Amen.
