The Anchor of the Soul

A Verse, A Comment, A Prayer, A Blessing (3/3/2023)

A Verse

Hebrews 6:19-20a

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf.

A Comment

What a great verse! I love the imagery of an anchor for the soul. An anchor holds the ship in place so that it does not drift. Though the storms batter the ship, the anchor holds strong. The author of Hebrews has used the image of drifting earlier in the book, but here we see our hope is not in our own strength, but the anchor that holds steady.

No matter what you face today, remember that we have an anchor for our soul. Jesus Christ, who ever lives to make intercession on our behalf. He has gone before us, but he has not left us. He is faithful. We can trust him, even in the storms of life as the winds of unbelief and temptation batter us. He is faithful.

A Prayer

Will you pray with me?

A Blessing

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.
