The Gift is Not Like the Trespass

A Verse

Romans 5:15-17

But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! Nor can the gift of God be compared with the result of one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!

A Comment

In these verses, Paul is contrasting the gift of grace in Christ with the consequence of sin in Adam, To quote Pauline scholar, Doug Moo, “The work of Christ, being a manifestation of grace, is greater in every way than that of Adam.” What wonderful news that God’s grace in Christ is greater than the consequences we face because of the sin that we participate in as offspring of Adam.

A Prayer

O’ Jesus, let us now lose the wonder of your marvelous grace toward us. Thank you for redeeming us. Fill us with praise! In Your name, Amen.

A Blessing

The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you all. Amen.
