The God Who Hears Our Groans

A Verse, A Comment, A Prayer, A Blessing (2/21/2022)

A Verse

Exodus 2:23-25

During that long period, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned in their slavery and cried out, and their cry for help because of their slavery went up to God. God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob. So God looked on the Israelites and was concerned about them.

A Comment

It might not always seem like it, but there is not a moment of our lives that goes unnoticed by our God. He sees our trouble. He hears our groans. In the case of the Israelites, sometimes He alleviates the trouble. In the case of the apostle Paul’s thorn in the flesh, sometimes He leaves the trouble. But we must remember that His sovereign ear never turns away our groans. He always sees and hears and is working out His purpose for His people.

A Prayer

O’ LORD, Grant us to be bold enough in Christ to lift our groans and complaints before You. You hear and see our sorrows. You are not indifferent. You are working out your purposes for your glory and our good. Grant us to endure. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Blessing

The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
