John 10:11
I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
A Comment
In today’s passage, Jesus not only declares Himself to be the good shepherd, but He defines His goodness in terms of sacrifice on behalf of His sheep. Just as Psalm 23 spoke of the LORD as our shepherd who cares for us in our need, so here, in John 10, we are reminded of God’s commitment to care for our deepest need through His own sacrifice. Our good shepherd lays down His life in our place.
A Prayer
O’ Jesus, thank you for laying down Your life in our place. You are God and You are good. We bless you this morning. In Your name, Amen.

Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever.
