The Potter and the Clay

A Verse, A Comment, A Prayer, A Blessing (1/18/22)

A Verse

Isaiah 45:9

Woe to those who quarrel with their Maker, those who are nothing but potsherds among the potsherds on the ground. Does the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you making?’ Does your work say, ‘The potter has no hands’?

A Comment

One of the greatest sources of sin and deception in our lives is failing to remember the distinction between Creator and creature. God is God, and we are not, and this is good news. When we forget God and blur the lines between Creator and creature, we often resort to foolishness.

A Prayer

Merciful Creator, deliver us from foolishness. Give us wisdom rooted in reverent fear of You. You are the Potter. We are the clay. Mold us into conformity to Christ. Grant us humility to see You in Your greatness as You have revealed Yourself in the face of Jesus Christ. Amen.

A Blessing

Now the Lord, Maker of heaven and earth,
the keeper of Israel and your keeper,
keep your going out and your coming in from now on and for all time. Amen.
