The Rule of His Peace

A Verse, A Comment, A Prayer, A Blessing (3/22/2023)

A Verse

Colossians 3:15

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

A Comment

We live in a society that is marked by near-constant conflict. Peaceful is not the way most people would describe our world. Whether it is a global conflict between countries or internal conflicts within an organization or a family, we long for peace.

In Paul’s letter to the church in Colossae, he reminds them to “let the peace of Christ rule” in their hearts. That is to say, “let the peace of Christ hold sway.” As the Prince of Peace, Christ calls us to peace with one another. But this is not our natural bent. Yet, in Christ, we can know and experience the rule of His peace not only in our personal lives but in our relationships with others.

When we remember that we belong to the same body as those who are united to Christ by the Holy Spirit, we recognize that conflict with other believers is like a self-inflicted wound. They are not the “other,” but instead, they are part of the same body that we are a part of. And Christ is the head of this body, nourishing it and leading it in keeping with His purpose.

A Prayer

Would you pray with me?

A Blessing

Peace to all of you who are in Christ.
