1 Timothy 4:7
Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly.
A Comment
While it would be nice to wake up and realize that we have drifted closer to godliness, that is not how the Christian life works. As the apostle Paul instructed Timothy, there is a place for holy effort, empowered by God’s grace, in the pursuit of godliness. Let us train to be godly as we might train for other things in our lives with a plan, passion, and consistency. God is worthy of our best efforts, rooted in His grace.
A Prayer
O’ LORD, thank you that we do not remain Your children by our obedience. We have been saved by grace through faith. This is not of ourselves. It is Your gift. And, as those who have received this gift from You, we also recognize that You have called us to make progress in the pursuit of becoming godly. Help us, today, O’ LORD. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
