A Verse

Ephesians 2:4-7

But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

What is grace? Grace is the unmerited favor of God. Some have defined it as “Grace stands for – God’s Riches at Christ’s Expense.” Grace consists of God’s love, patience, kindness, and mercy. While we do not deserve God’s grace, He is gracious to us in Jesus Christ, offering us the love, patience, kindness, and mercy that we cannot earn. Grace is a gift.

And so, as God gives grace to us, “the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in kindness to us in Christ Jesus” is revealed as His glory. As people see sinners forgiven, restored, and reconciled to God by Christ, they behold the glory of God in His grace. And they glorify God for His grace, which is what the letter of Ephesians is all about. Paul wants the church in Ephesus to glorify God, to worship God, to regard God as great, because of His grace! To the praise of the glory of His grace!

A Prayer

Jesus, we thank You for Your grace. Apart from Your grace, we could be or do nothing. Help us to live in light Your grace today. In Your name, Amen.

A Blessing

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
